Introducing Jessica van Delft, our new Bristol teacher!
Meet the new teacher on the block at Babel Babies Bristol.
Jessica grew up in South London, surrounded by lots of different languages and cultures, which she loved. She studied French and Italian at Exeter University, spending a fantastic year abroad in Italy in the beautiful city of Pisa (she could see the leaning tower from her bedroom window!), and it is in Pisa that she met Dominique, one of the Babel Babies Directors.
From Exeter she went on to do a Masters in European Languages and Cultures and then lived in Brazil for a year where she taught English as a foreign language to teenagers and adults, and for a crazy month even taught kindergarten in the Amazon!
She moved to Bristol in 2009 to train as a secondary languages teacher and taught for two years in a challenging school in Bristol. She then worked for Lightbox – The Happiness Project helping to facilitate creative workshops around wellbeing and also studied for a certificate in Counselling. From there she moved to Kids Company Bristol as the Volunteer Coordinator and then continued as a Teacher/Therapeutic Keyworker until she had her daughter, Isabella.
Jessica said, "I would love Isabella to be exposed to as many different languages and cultures as possible and for her to get excited about them, like I do!", which is what we hope many of our Babel Babies' parents think too!
Her interests include photography and pottery (she exhibited some work!), yoga, running, and she has a passion for languages (naturally), travelling, cooking (and eating!) good food.
Keep an eye on our websiteand Facebook pagefor details of our new venues and classes that will be taught by Jessica. She is really excited about starting with Babel Babies and we can't wait for her to start either. What a treat to have such a well-travelled, well-rounded, multilingual mum join our team!
